Loss of Antarctic ice hurting survival of emperor penguin chicks, study says

The loss of ice in a region of Antarctica last year led to the absence of any surviving emperor penguin chicks in four colonies, according to researchers. The lack of ice during the summer months meant that the chicks, which rely on the ice to survive, either drowned or froze to death. Climate change is expected to increase the frequency of such losses in the future.
