Turkish parliamentary committee to debate Sweden's Nato membership bid

Turkey's Parliament's foreign affairs committee is set to discuss Sweden's bid to join Nato, bringing the country closer to membership in the alliance. Turkey had previously stalled the ratification of Sweden's membership, citing concerns about its leniency towards groups Turkey considers security threats. However, Turkey recently lifted its objection after Sweden pledged deeper cooperation on counterterrorism and support for Turkey's EU membership bid. All existing Nato members must unanimously approve new members, and Turkey and Hungary had been holding out.
