Crews near Gatlinburg, Tennessee said Thursday they found three more bodies in the rubble of the wildfire that raged across the state on Monday, bringing the death toll to 10.
Authorities in the area had established a hotline for reports of missing persons in relation to the fire, and fire crews responded to dozens of calls.
They say many of the people reported missing have been accounted for.
After the three bodies found on Thursday, however, Gatlinburg fire chief Greg Miller told reporters, "we have to come to a realization that the potential is great that it could be more of a recovery than a rescue.
