On Wednesday this week, New York Governor Andrew Cuomo proposed a 750-mile hiking and biking trail connecting the borough of Manhattan in New York City to Canada. Cuomo said in a statement that the path, which will be called the "The Empire State Trail," will be the nation’s largest multi-use trail network, providing residents and visitors alike unprecedented access to the "state's outdoor treasures." Cuomo went on to propose spending $200 million over the next three years to pave 350 miles of gaps in existing greenways and connect them to the trail, which is expected to bring millions of dollars in revenue to surrounding communities each year.
