city... for him to step aside. jennifer: edith windsor... the woman whose lawsuit against the federal government helped pave the way for same-sex marriage ....has died. windsor is survived by her second wife, judith kasen-windsor, whom she married in 2016. she was the plaintiff in a landmark supreme court case that struck down parts of the federal defense of marriage act. the court ruled in 2013 that the law was unconstitutional....and that same-sex couples should receive the same federal benefits that heterosexual couples have. windsor was 88
