ICE to Buy Electric Shock Gloves for Immigration Officers
U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement plans to spend up to $20 million on gloves that deliver electric shocks for officers and agents. The Department of Homeland Security described the devices as a “de-escalation” tool, while critics and immigrant advocates warned they could encourage greater use of force. The manufacturer says the shock is usually effective in bringing individuals into compliance in less than three seconds and that the gloves are safe when properly used.
