Trump Bars CNN, MS NOW and Politico From White House
Journalists from CNN, MS NOW and Politico were denied access to the White House grounds on Saturday morning, a day after President Donald Trump said he would ban the three news organisations from the executive branch complex.
Trump said he was barring the outlets because of their coverage, telling reporters, “You get sick of it,” and accusing them of publishing “FICTION and LIES.” CNN and MS NOW each said their personnel were turned away at the White House gates.
The White House Correspondents’ Association, led by Fox News’s Jacqui Heinrich, called on the Trump administration to immediately restore access, arguing that the move sets a dangerous precedent for free speech.
Trump Says Planned D.C. Arch Would House Drones and Snipers
President Trump said on Sunday that his proposed 76-metre (250-foot) “triumphal arch” in Washington, D.C., would be converted into a “top-grade military complex” housing drones and snipers and storing ammunition.
He claimed military operations at the site are needed to protect national security, an argument that echoes his justification for the White House ballroom project. A federal court is currently weighing the arch’s legality.
Houthis Claim Missile and Drone Attack on Saudi Capital
Flames and a large plume of black smoke were seen rising near Riyadh’s main airport before Yemen’s Iran-backed Houthi rebels claimed a missile and drone attack on “sensitive” sites in the Saudi capital.
Saudi Arabia said on Saturday that the Houthis had tried to strike Riyadh with a ballistic missile, the first time the capital has been targeted since the escalation in fighting with the rebels opened a new front in the Iran war.
Authorities sent air raid alerts to citizens by phone overnight, the first such warnings for Riyadh since fighting with the Houthis escalated in July.
