Trump Administration Charges James Comey for Third Time

The Justice Department has charged former FBI director James Comey with two counts of leaking information related to national defence, the third time the Trump administration has brought criminal charges against him. The charges, filed in federal court in Washington DC on Monday, allege that Comey unlawfully authorised the disclosure of classified information to The New York Times.

Comey's lawyers immediately dismissed the prosecution as invalid and outside the statute of limitations. The filing was made without using a grand jury, an unusual procedural move in the case.

The Trump administration has asked Washington state to set aside ballots received from more than 400 people it alleges are registered to vote without US citizenship. Noncitizen voting is exceptionally rare, according to election experts.

Israelis Vote in High-Stakes Election on Netanyahu Leadership

Israelis went to the polls on Tuesday in a national election widely viewed as a referendum on Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu's leadership since the Hamas-led attacks of 7 October 2023. Voters are weighing his handling of the Gaza war, conflict with Iran and Israel's deepening international isolation, and turnout was reported to be high, reaching levels unseen in decades.

Accountability for the government's failures before and during the 7 October assault looms large over the contest, with the result set to decide whether Netanyahu remains in power.
