NPR – US A judge declared a mistrial in Lindsay Clancy's first-degree murder trial after the jury deadlocked. Clancy still faces murder charges over the deaths of her three children. District Attorney Timothy Cruz must now decide whether to retry her, downgrade the charges or drop the case. President Trump called the case a "terrible situation" and a "horrible tragedy."
NYTimes – US Robin Morgan, a child star of the 1940s and '50s who became a poet, essayist, editor and leading second-wave feminist, has died at age 85. She edited the landmark 1970 anthology "Sisterhood Is Powerful," led Ms. magazine and co-founded the Women's Media Center with Jane Fonda and Gloria Steinem. Her death was confirmed Saturday by the Women's Media Center.
NYTimes – US A federal judge declined to block the Pentagon from firing journalists at the military newspaper Stars and Stripes, allowing the defense department to proceed for now with exerting greater editorial control. The journalists argued they were illegally punished for speaking out about the publication's independence. The Pentagon accused two journalists of insubordination after one said in a July interview that she worked for Stars and Stripes, not for the Pentagon or any administration.
