NPR – US Christa Pike is unconscious and on a ventilator after a botched lethal injection execution attempt in Tennessee, her attorneys said. She is believed to be the first person in the modern U.S. death penalty era to receive lethal injection drugs and survive. Pike, on death row for over 30 years for murder, was brought to a hospital with burned and blistered arms, according to a court filing.
NPR – US New York Governor Kathy Hochul appointed state Attorney General Letitia James as special prosecutor in the case of a Cornell University student who alleged she was sexually assaulted at a fraternity house in 2024. Hochul said local authorities failed to properly investigate and that she had lost faith in prosecutors overseeing the case. James will take over the entire matter.
