NPR – US The US Supreme Court cleared the way for Tennessee to execute Christa Pike, the state's only woman on death row, by lethal injection. The execution had been scheduled for Wednesday and was briefly paused by a lower court before the Supreme Court allowed it to proceed. Pike, 50, was convicted of torturing and murdering a classmate in Knoxville in 1995. Tennessee Governor Bill Lee had earlier denied her clemency request. If carried out, it would be the state's first execution of a woman in 200 years.
