BBC News – World Jessica Bowie, 35, of Albany, New York, was arrested and charged with plotting an Islamic State-inspired attack on the New York State Capitol, according to the FBI and Justice Department. Prosecutors allege she pledged allegiance to the Islamic State group, planned to detonate an explosive at the statehouse, and intended to flee to IS-controlled territory in Syria. The FBI apprehended her following a sting operation.
NYTimes – World A luxury safari helicopter crashed in a remote part of northern Kenya on Wednesday morning with no survivors, killing all seven people on board. Five of the dead were Americans, the US State Department said. Among those killed were Ecuador's director of national intelligence, Michele Sensi-Contugi, his wife Stephany Hollihan, and NBCUniversal journalist José Alberto Suárez, a Florida-based Telemundo executive. Search and recovery efforts were hampered by fire at the site and difficult terrain, officials said.
NYTimes – US The USS Abraham Lincoln aircraft carrier and its approximately 5,000 crew are returning to San Diego after a roughly nine-month deployment in the Middle East, largely supporting U.S. operations against Iran. The USS George Washington has arrived to relieve the Lincoln, whose families raised concerns about deteriorating living conditions, plumbing problems, low morale and reports of several suicide attempts.
