BBC News – World Jessica Bowie, 35, of Albany, New York, was arrested and charged with planning an Islamic State-inspired attack on the New York State Capitol building, according to the Justice Department. The FBI said it used a sting operation during its investigation. Prosecutors allege Bowie had pledged allegiance to the Islamic State group, expressed support for terrorism online, and planned to detonate explosives before fleeing to IS-controlled territory in Syria.
NYTimes – US The USS George Washington aircraft carrier has arrived in the Middle East to relieve the USS Abraham Lincoln after an approximately nine-month deployment, described as a record. The Lincoln, with about 5,000 crew members, is returning to San Diego. Reports from relatives cited deteriorating living conditions, plumbing problems, shortages, low morale and several suicide attempts aboard the Lincoln.
NPR – US A civilian-contracted charter aircraft carrying eight people crashed near the Cape Newenham Long Range Radar Site in western Alaska on Thursday, killing two pilots and six passengers, the U.S. military said. All eight people on board died.
