British Columbia Declares Wildfire Emergency

British Columbia has declared a state of emergency as fast-moving wildfires force evacuations across the Okanagan Valley. More than 20,000 people were ordered to flee, with thousands more warned to prepare to evacuate. The fires erupted on Friday and nearly doubled in size overnight into Saturday. National police are investigating a possible death near Summerland, though it has not been confirmed. Earlier Ontario fires had sent smoke to the U.S. East Coast.
