NPR – US Dennis Hastert, former House speaker, dies at 84
Dennis Hastert, the longest-serving Republican U.S. House speaker, died Saturday of natural causes at his home while receiving hospice care, a coroner said Monday. He was 84. Hastert represented Illinois in Congress for two decades and served as speaker from 1999 to 2007. He was later imprisoned in a hush-money case tied to sexual abuse allegations.
