Glasgow Council Pauses Fire-and-Rehire Plan

Glasgow City Council has put on hold its plan to fire and rehire more than 23,000 staff under new contracts following "constructive" talks with the Scottish government and three trade unions. Talks are due to resume early next week to try to reach a new pay deal. The council has said redundancy notices will be withdrawn if the unions agree to ballot their members on the pay offer.
