NPR – World Maduro and Wife Seek Dismissal of Drug Charges on Immunity Grounds
Former Venezuelan President Nicolás Maduro and his wife have asked a U.S. judge to dismiss their drug trafficking indictment, arguing they have immunity as the leader and first lady of a foreign country. Their attorneys also contended that only Venezuelan courts have the right to prosecute them. Maduro has previously called himself a “prisoner of war” and his capture a “kidnapping.”
