UK mayors may gain water company oversight powers

The UK government is considering plans to give mayors and other local leaders powers to oversee water companies, including input on spending and holding bosses to account over bills and sewage discharges. The proposal would create nine new regional bodies responsible for planning, setting objectives and accountability.
