Indian Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan resigned on Saturday after a week of nationwide youth-led protests, handing a major victory to the Cockroach movement that had mounted one of the most serious popular challenges to Prime Minister Narendra Modi's government in recent years.
Pradhan said in a social-media post that he had submitted his letter of resignation. The youth-led Cockroach Janta Party, which had spearheaded demonstrations, sit-ins and hunger strikes over an exam-leak scandal, called off its protest hours after his departure.
The movement, led by Gen-Z activists across India, has been described as perhaps the biggest challenge to Modi during his 12 years in office.
