Gevo Inc (NASDAQ:GEVO) (FRA:ZGV3), the next-generation 'low-carbon' fuel company, hailed on Friday news that major US carrier United Airlines Holdings Inc (NASDAQ:UAL) (FRA:UAL1) is aiming to reduce its greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions by 100% by 2050.  The airline stated the goal yesterday and it is the first major company planning the reduction without the use of carbon offset measures like tree-planting. It says that it aims to become “100% green” rather than to reach so-called 'net-zero' and will include using sustainable aviation fuel (SAF) in its strategy.  READ: Gevo sends sustainable aviation fuel to Seattle airport via its supplier Avfuel Corporation Gevo's CEO Patrick Gruber said the move was a potential "game-changer". "It is good for the airline industry, good for US farmers, good for consumers, and good for the environment," he said in a statement. "Gevo’s SAF is approved for use in commerce and has already been used to power numerous commercial flights around the world, including flights by United. It is also notable the possibility to have a net zero, or even negative, GHG profile with SAF like ours." Gruber added: "We wholeheartedly agree SAF is the fastest and most effective way United can reduce its emissions." Englewood, Colorado-based Gevo is developing gasoline and jet fuel using renewable feedstocks that have the potential to lower greenhouse gas emissions at a meaningful scale. It has developed a break-through process that converts a high-octane fuel called isobutanol into clean, renewable diesel. The green diesel can also be made from fossil oils, a mixture of several alcohols produced as a by-product of fermentation. Yesterday, Gevo told investors it had supplied its sustainable aviation fuel (SAF) to the aviation industry in the Pacific Northwest, by way of its customer and global fuel supplier, Avfuel Corporation. Avfuel delivered SAF to Leading Edge Jet Center, a fixed base operator (FBO) and provider of business aviation services throughout the region, at its Seattle facility The delivery marks the first load of sustainable aviation fuel to an FBO at the King County International Airport - Boeing Field (BFI) in Seattle for resale to its customers, as well as Avfuel’s entry to SAF deliveries in Washington state.
