Why has deepening the Danube River become a political and environmental dispute?

Crossing ten countries and connecting Central and Eastern Europe, the River Danube is one of Europe's most important waterways. But plans for making it deeper to allow fully-laden cargo ships to pass year-round, have become a political and environmental dispute in Hungary.
