Buzzfeed: Grindr sharing users' HIV status and location with third-party companies

Grindr, a very popular gay dating and "hook-up" app with millions of worldwide daily active users, has reportedly been sharing users' HIV statuses and locations with two external app optimization companies, according to a new Buzzfeed report. The two organizations, Apptimize and Localytics, have been receiving information that Grindr users included in their profiles, including their HIV status as well as users' ethnicity, GPS location, "tribe" — or, the gay subculture users feel they most align with — and relationship status, among a few other details.
