Islamic extremist rebels in northeastern Nigeria killed at least 37 villagers in two separate attacks, marking a resurgence of violence in the region. The first attack occurred in Yobe state's Geidam district, where gunmen shot and killed 17 villagers. The following day, a land mine exploded, killing 20 people attending the burial of the victims from the previous attack.
