Cop Accused Of Violating Safer At Home Order

Sydney Martin discusses the on-going administrative investigation after an employee of the Huntsville Police Department has been accused of illegally training dogs.

Good news because it means things aren't getting any worse.

>> tonight, a huntsville police officer is under investigation by the department.

She is accused of illegally training dogs at big spring park.

We're joined live from the park tonight, after working to learn mother about the investigation.

Sydney?

>> reporter: the huntsville police department is looking into facebook posts made during alabama state home order that shows dogs being trained here at big spring park.

The city told me during alabama stay-at-home order no events could happen in the park and all that open parks could have in them was have people walk through them.

>> a concerned viewer sent waay 31 these facebook posts.

The business is named "a canine's purpose training."

A post to its facebook on april 16 and the middle of stay-at-home order offered group dog training in the park.

Waay 31 learned the owner is police officer ashley carlton.

I asked huntsville police about the post.

The department said she an employee of the huntsville police department and there's an ongoing administrative investigation into these allegations.

The post offers training for $30 a dog.

According to the city of huntsville, charging for a service in a public park makes this a business.

I talked to carlton over the phone today.

She didn't want to go on camera.

She told me she offers dog training for free if the owner agrees to wear a bike suit.

She is adamant she is allowed to train dogs in the city park and month one has ever complained before.

The city said a business could not hold on event in the park without a specific events permit.

The city said no permits were issued during the coronavirus health orders.

Now, it's important to note on this facebook post, she was offering on leash or off leash dog training and in the city of huntsville there is a leash law which means a dog cannot be off of a leash unless its on it's owners property.

Tonight we're working to learn more from huntsville police.

Live, sydney martin, waay 31.
