After enduring pregnancy difficulties, Craig and Kristin Nickols give birth to a baby girl through embryo adoption.

One local couple's journey to having children finally landed them with a son and daughter they say have changed their lives forever.fox 55's mallory beard met with the family and tells us how they've pushed through problems with infertility and adoption, but finally made their way.

Stella nickols is just six weeks old.her five year old brother xavier, couldn't wait for her to get home from the hospital.

The two share more than just a last name.

They're both adopted and biracial.

Craig nickols//stella's father"well, my wife and i, we've always had it in our hearts to adopt at some point."

After the nickols struggled to give birth for past few years, they opted for embryo adoption and carried baby stella up to 35 weeks.

Kristin nickols//stella' s mother"and we could also choose the embryo.

So we could choose that they be biracial which was also something that was super important to us."

Craig and kristin nickols adopted their five year-old son, xavier, the traditional way..and after what seemed like countless hormone shots, the nickols connected with the national embryo donation center to be matched with a donor.kristin nickols//stella' s mother"we'd already been through a bunch of heart ache, been through a few miscarriages.

And needed it to either work or needed to give it up."

The nickols say they chose stella and xavier for each other.

Craig nickols//stella's father "there's all sorts of different situations for anyone of us.

Especially for biracial kids.

And we wanted him to be able to experience those things with a sibling.in light of the social hardships children of color may face growing up in a predominantly white community, they wanted them to be able to support each if needed.kristin nickols//stella's mother"to be able to have each others' backs i guess."

A sentiment the nichols describe as the two almost being born for each other.kristin nickols//stella' s mother"i think that there are unique things that come with different backgrounds you know.

We don't necessarily understand, but he can have that in common with his sibling and they can kind of be there for each other."in fort wayne, i'm mallory beard.
