Last wednesday we aired a story that had people on both sides of the issue upset.

We listened to your concerns and wanted to set the record straight.

What did you find out?

There has been some conflicting informationãwe wanted to clear it up.

The original story reported some numbers were higher than the state's threshold.

I spoke with the chico water district about how it decides when to close swimming holes because elevated fecal matter - they say they've been using the same guidelines for many years.

But some people did their own test and have concerns.

The sounds of calming creekã can be inviting on a hot summer day.

But how safe are they to swim in?

Are there concerning levels of fecal matter in swimming holes around the area& jody gallaway thinks so.

Sot jody gallaway- biologist "i wouldn't let my children swim in certain parts of the creek," "one chico" an independent interest group - funded fecal testsãthey collected samples from sycamore east and west, 5 mile, comanche creek, and humboldt park.

Once per week for the month of june into july.

The company conducting said testsãfruit growers labãit is the same company the city of chico uses to test swimming water.

Sot according to the california regional water quality control board the bacteria water quality should not exceed 200 fecal units per 100 milliliters.

So what's the city's threshold?

Sot on june 10th - you can see three area's over the states guidelines on june 17ãthree as well, with humboldt park a very small body of water testing the highest.

The numbers are similar on june 17th -24th, and july 1st and 8th.

Sot sot sot now the city tells me that it has reached out to the state to get the updated thresholdsãby the way we did our own studyã the preliminary numbers were slightly higher then the tests showed in this report, once we get the final report, we'll share them with you.
