A bear sighting caused some excitement in Lower Bidwell park Friday morning.

A bear sighting caused some excitement in lower bidwell park this morning.

Just before 8 o'clock this morning chico police dispatch received calls, of a black bear roaming the grounds near the chico creek nature center.

Police officers, park rangers and fish and wildlife officers blocked some trails and scouted the area -but came up empty.

Fish and wildlife officers say recent fires may be pushing more wildlife... like bears... toward developed areas.

And... what should you do if you spot one??

"give it some room; don't press it.

Black bears are not aggressive, so unless it's cornered or something like that they're not going to be aggressive with people.//when you hear - bear sighting - what goes through your mind?

I mean, i'm still gonna walk this park.

(plus) generally speaking, there's a lot of space here, and a bear isn't going to track me down, i'm not the right kind of food.

Wildlife officers say they will stay in the area, so if there*i* another sighting - response time will be quick!

The goal would be to safely tranquilize and relocate the bear.

If you are happen to see the animal ... make sure you are in a safe spot, and call 9-1-1-.## action news now
