Change on Voting

Voting regulations rule change.

This morning -- you're taking a live look over madison county.

We have just a little over a month until election day!

Now, some new changes have been made to how people can vote.

A federal judge ruled several voting regulations must be changed due to the coronavirus.

Waay 31's ashley carter joins us live now with the changes made and how people are feeling about them.

The judge made three big changes and they all apply to absentee voting and were designed to make those at high risk for cornavirus safe when it comes to casting their votes this year.

There's is some disagreement with the new changes regarding how they could potentially impact election results.

The first change is people who are susceptible to coronavirus do not have to have a signed notary or witnesses when casting their absentee ballot the second is voters over the age of 65 with underlying medical conditions do not need to provide a copy of their i-d with their absentee ballot application and the third is allowing for curbside voting in every county people we spoke with do like some of the changes...but dislike others sheila dyas/ voter "i don't understand the reason for not providing their id.

I don't see how it will provide any ease."

Joann huggins/ voter "if you have someone who works for the courthouse or the state of alabama to go out and go to the car to get the ballot, then i don't have a problem with that."

Absentee voting has already begun.

Voters have until october 29th to request and absentee ballot.

State attorney general steve marshall did send us a statement saying he plans to appeal the judges ruling.
