Fights break out at Rome park

Several police agencies respond to a fight involving more than 200 people in Rome on Thursday, Oct 1, 2020.

Report of a juvenile with a gun, which turned out to be false.

But what police say they did find, was a large, unauthorized football game - that disintegrated into more of a boxing match.

We have video to show you!

Newschannel 2's joleen ferris is live at guyer field with the very latest on this.

Joleen?

Thanks, kristen.

Police say they showed up, talked to the individual, who did not have a gun.

And that a fight broke out, then several other fights broke out.

We found some videos on social media platforms that people posted from the incident.

They show police officers who have some juveniles on the ground, restraining them, after breaking up the fight.

The group, citizen action new york, planned a rally for a little later, protesting what the videos show and what they call police brutality.

Rome police chief, kevin beach, told us....from what he's seen and heard, from the police reports, this is absolutely not police brutality.

Officers were put into a very dangerous situation with a large group of people acting violently toward them and each other and i think they handled themselves very well, while getting cursed at and threatened with bodily harm and spit at" chief beach did say, however, that any time there is an accusation or concern about police conductande brutality, supervisors do, of course, look at it.

And they are.

And a group called citizen action new york thinks it'slicee planning a rallyn solidaritagail check it out.

Back to you.
