It took a team of 25 people paired with someone of a different political affiliation to count more than 40,000 ballots.

Red several local races are still- not official tonight as well--- here in vanderburgh county-- the counting of early in-person votes continued today.

Volunteer poll workers helping to certify and count tens of thousands of absentee and early ballots.

44news reporter tyler druin --- joins us live -- with a look at the process.

The unofficial results were just released in the last hour - damaged ballots - along with left over early in person ballots took workers days to count - its day three of vote counting - - in vanderburgh county -- "i know we are going through quit a bit right now, especially since the election was two days ago and now its thursday" ballot counting took workers hours to scan, process and count accurately.

Part of the delay is due to damaged ballots- "part of the workers we have here today, are teams that will be remaking ballots that were torn smudged, that made it difficult for the machine to read some were sliced with letters openers used to open the envelopes" vanderburgh county election workers processed more than 55,000 mail-in and early voting ballots between election day and wednesday- "this election season has been crazy one of the craziest elections i have ever witnessed" 25 elections workers were paired with someone of a different political affiliation while counting the more than 40,000 votes remaining.

"my message to the vanderburgh county poll workers would be to stay positive, i'm sending positive thoughts and vibes there way" election officials say everything has been peaceful with watchers during the counting process..

"so many people are debating but they're also fighting, instead of coming together to make this a better place for every color and for one" the results will become official by the board of election next friday - november 13th - - live tonight in downtown evansville.
