In 2015, the world's largest automotive outfit by revenue, Volkswagen, admitted installing illegal software to rig emission levels in its diesel models worldwide. The scandal was christened 'dieselgate,' and the man behind it, EX-Audi boss Rupert Stadler, on Tuesday received a suspended sentence for one year and nine months by a Munich court.
