Sensex rises 226 points to hit fresh closing high; Nifty settles above 15,850

Equity indices surged to record highs on Friday with the benchmark BSE sensex rising over 200 points led by gains in banking, metal and financial stocks. The 30-share BSE index rose 193 points or 0.37 per cent to close at fresh peak of 52,925; while the broader NSE Nifty settled 73 points or 0.46 per cent at record of 15,863.
