Sentencing continues for two more of the former deputies in Mississippi who pleaded guilty last year to breaking into a home without a warrant and torturing two Black men with a stun gun, a sex toy and other objects. Brett McAlpin and Joshua Hartfield face lengthy prison terms in a sentencing hearing on Thursday. U.S. District Judge Tom Lee has given sentences ranging from 17.5 years to 40 years to four former Rankin County sheriff's deputies this week. The judge called the former officers' actions “egregious and despicable.” Lee has handed down prison terms near the top of the sentencing guidelines.
