Union minister Pratap Sarangi goes into home quarantine
Tuesday, 7 July 2020 Sarangi said he had shared the dais with Sukanta Kumar Nayak, the MLA from Nilagiri constituency in Balasore district, at two events on July 2 and 3. "On being informed that MLA Nilagiri has been tested positive for #COVID-19, I self quarantined myself at my official residence in Delhi as per the guidelines of the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare," he said.
Congress MLA Sumitra Devi Kasdekar submitted her resignation on July 17 as MLA to Madhya Pradesh Protem Speaker Rameshwar Sharma. Kasdekar's resignation has been accepted, Sharma informed. She is a legislator from Nepanagar constituency in Burhanpur district in MP. Kasdekar's resignation comes less than a week after Pradyumna Singh Lodhi, who represented the Bada Malhara seat in Chhatarpur district, also resigned. After her resignation is accepted, the Congress' tally of members in the Madhya Pradesh Assembly would be down to 90.
After Uttar Pradesh Legislative Assembly Speaker Hriday Narayan Dixit rejected Congress' plea to disqualify two MLAs, one of them, Aditi Singh said that the truth has won. She said, "We have won the cases and all I want to say is that truth can be troubled but not defeated. According to them, my fault was to put problems of people of my region in front of Assembly Speaker on October 02. The honorable Speaker has finally given the decision on the matter on their disqualification plea as every MLA has right to reach the Assembly with their problems."
Members and workers of the state unit of BJP staged protest over the death of BJP MLA Debendra Nath Ray. MLA was found hanging in Bindal near his village home. West Bengal BJP has called 12-hr 'bandh' in the districts of North Bengal tomorrow, over the incident. BJP's Central Observer for West Bengal, Kailash Vijayvargiya on the incident said, "We've demanded CBI probe. We'll meet Home Minister tomorrow. If President gives time, we'll let him know of the anarchy in West Bengal."
Trials of Helicopter-launched Nag Missile (HELINA), now named Dhruvastra anti-tank guided missile in direct and top attack mode were conducted in Odisha. The flight trials were conducted on 15 and 16 July at ITR (Integrated Test Range) Balasore in Odisha. This was done without helicopter.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi inaugurated the Rashtriya Swachhata Kendra in Delhi on Saturday. He said that like the Quit India Movement, which was launched under the leadership of MK Gandhi on August 8, 1942, the Swachhata Kendra's inauguration symbolises the ongoing cleanliness drive, or 'Filth, Quit India' movement. Referring to the Covid-19 pandemic, the Prime Minister said that many habits of hygiene propagated under the Swachh Bharat Abhiyan were helping the country in its fight against the Sars-CoV-2 coronavirus. The PM also took a dig at the Opposition, asking his audience to imagine what the situation would've been if Covid-19 had struck before 2014, when open defecation was prevalent. India has reported over 20 lakh Covid cases so far, making it the third worst-hit country in the world. Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) leader Atishi met family member of 12-year-old sexual assault victim at Delhi's AIIMS on August 08. Speaking on this she said that mishap cannot be rectified but compensation of 10 lakh has been given by the Delhi Government. "Whatever happened with the girl child cannot be rectified, but she can be helped so that she doesn't face trouble during treatment. Therefore, the compensation of 10 lakh has been given by the Delhi government. We hope that she get well soon," said Atishi on minor facing brutal sexual assault in Delhi's Paschim Vihar.
Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal visited compost system near Bangla Sahib Gurudwara on August 08. He further planted a tree and later addressed the problems of the residents. People complained of foul smell to which Kejriwal assured that by August 20, the problem will be resolved.
Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal on Kozhikode plane crash extended his condolences to the families of the deceased and injured. "It is a tragic incident," he added. An Air India Express plane carrying 190 passengers skidded while landing at Karipur Airport in Kozhikode leaving 18 dead.
India on August 08 reported a spike of 61,537 coronavirus cases, and 933 deaths in the last 24 hours. Confirmed infections have gone up to 20,88,612 which includes 6,19,088 active cases. The death toll has risen to 42,518. Meanwhile, 14,27,005 people have beaten the invisible virus in the country, according to the data released by the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare. Indian Council of Medical Research said the country tested 5,98,778 samples for coronavirus on August 07. 2,33,87,171 samples have been tested as on August 07.
