Amidst Trump's comment calling India's air filthy, Delhi-NCR already chokes
Friday, 23 October 2020 It seems that this year the smog season has already started. The air quality of Delhi NCR is fast deteriorating due to which it's becoming increasingly difficult for people to go out of their houses.
Defending his own decision to pull out of the Paris accord, US President Donald Trump referred to what he called the filthy air in India, China and Russia. His choice of words haven't gone down well with many especially in India. He said Look at China, how filthy it is. Look at Russia. Look at India....
Since election day President Donald Trump's campaign has ratcheted up fundraising. The Washington Post revealed the Trump campaign has raised more than $150 million to fight election fraud. The New York Times published a similar report on Monday, but put the number at $170 million. Business Insider reports that's the amount raised since Election Day is about double the amount that one of Trump's main PACs raised during September, its best month.
A heated argument reportedly broke out between protesting farmers and Congress workers in Delhi. Cadre of the main Opposition party had set up tents at the Nirankari Samagam ground in Delhi's Burari to serve food to farmers. However, the protestors reportedly objected to posters of political parties being put up at the site. Congress claimed that those who objected to the posters were actually Aam Aadmi Party workers, as per reports. Farmers from multiple states have travelled to Delhi to protest against 3 recent agri-reform laws. Speaking to ANI in the national capital on December 01 during his visit to Burari protest site, Delhi Transport Minister, Kailash Gahlot spoke on farmers' protests. Gahlot said, "There should be a proper dialogue and Centre should accept all the demands proposed by farmers as they are genuine." "My primary purpose of visiting protest sites is to ensure the basic facilities for protesting farmers," he added.
A thick layer of toxic foam was seen floating on the surface of river Yamuna in the national capital. The foam is formed due to the high phosphate content of the water resulting from the excessive release of pollutants in the water body. Dumping of waste also contributes to the forming of toxic foam in the river. The toxic foam poses a health hazard for people living in nearby areas. Meanwhile, the air pollution in the National Capital Region has reduced after rainfall on Sunday evening. The air quality was in the poor category on Monday morning.
