800 evicted families wait on sandbar for ‘promised’ land in Assam’s Darrang district

The 800 families occupying about 4,500 bighas of land in Assam’s Darrang district who were evicted as part of the state government’s drive against “encroachments” last Monday on a peaceful note are now waiting for the government’s promised 1,000 bighas of land for rehabilitation.
