Chital as prey for cheetahs: Bishnois write to PM

Known to be fiercely protective of its native wildlife, Rajasthan’s Bishnoi community has written to PM Narendra Modi, protesting against 181 chital (spotted deer) from the state being sent to MP’s Kuno National Park for the cheetahs from Namibia to make a meal of. “There’s no scientific proof that cheetahs are important and chitals are not… In Rajasthan, chitals are on the verge of extinction and must be protected. Therefore this unscientific and senseless decision of serving chitals must be reconsidered,” Devendra Bishnoi, president of the Akhil Bharatiya Bishnoi Mahasangh, wrote in the letter sent on Monday.
