Bed of thorns before crown of gold for UP champ girls

Two daughters from villages in Meerut district, Parul Chaudhary and Annu Rani, won gold medals in the women's 5,000m race and javelin throw events at the Asian Games. Both faced resistance from their communities for participating in sports considered "manly," but now their families and villages celebrate their success. Annu Rani's father noted that she has changed people's thinking in the area. Parul Chaudhary faced taunts and had to train secretly but proved her critics wrong. Both athletes have become inspirations for other girls in their villages.
