A Congress-backed sarpanch in Gwalior city, Madhya Pradesh, was shot dead on the street just before the assembly election dates were announced. The sarpanch, Vikram Singh Rawat, was shot four times in the head and the murder was captured on CCTV. Rawat had previously had police protection but it was removed a few months ago. His wife has accused a BJP candidate of conspiracy in the murder. The police are investigating the case and reviewing CCTV footage to apprehend the attackers.
