Asia's longest surviving kidney recipient Krishna Ram Sharma died at a private hospital in Jaipur on Saturday. The 70-year-old resident of Hanumangarh in northwest Rajasthan underwent the transplant at Christian Medical College, Vellore (CMC-Vellore) in March 1977 when he was 24, with his elder brother Om Prakash Sharma, who was 27 at the time, donating one of his kidneys. In the 46 years since the kidney transplant, Sharma actively participated in organ donation conferences, sharing his remarkable journey and leaving a profound impact on the kidney patient community.
