Nashik teenager gets gift of life from Surat toddler in Mumbai hospital

The liver of an 18-month-old child from Surat, who fell from the first floor and was declared brain dead, was successfully transplanted into a 14-year-old boy with Type 1 familial hypercholesterolemia. The liver reached Nanavati Hospital in Mumbai through a 281-km green corridor set up from Surat. This marks the city's first cadaveric transplant of the year. Dr. Bharat Shah from the Zonal Transplant Coordination Centre mentioned that awareness about organ donation has increased and 2024 could witness a record number of donations in Mumbai.
