(MENAFN - Jordan News Agency) Baqa'a April 12 (Petra) -- US ambassador to Jordan, Henry Wooster, said that His Majesty King Abdullah, since his accession to the throne, has shown great generosity in his care for the Palestinian refugees, and no one has preceded him on this issue.In his visit to the UNRWA Baqa'a camp clinic on Monday, after his country resumed financial support to the UN agency, Wooster said that Jordan is one of the strategic partners, lauding Jordan's great role in bearing the burden of refugees.He expressed his country's pride in supporting the Palestinian refugee community in Jordan in partnership with the Jordanian government, calling on donor countries to provide aid to UNRWA after his country resumed providing aid to the UN agency.He pointed out that the US administration announcement of the resumption of financial support to UNRWA in the amount of $150 million, as this support will provide health care and medicine to prevent Coronavirus disease and relief, in addition to support for education.For his part, Commissioner-General of UNRWA, Philippe Lazzarini, said, "We welcome the resumption of US support to UNRWA, which will greatly help the regional office in Jordan to continue providing its services to about 2.4 million refugees and the continuation of education services for 120,000 students in 169 UNRWA schools, and health services in 25 health centers, in addition to providing services to about 18,000 Palestinian refugees from Syria."In turn, the Director General of the Palestinian Affairs Department, Rafiq Kharfan, said that Jordan welcomes the US support to UNRWA, as UNRWA was previously suffering financially, which negatively affected the provision of necessary services and the payment of workers 'salaries, pointing out that before 2018, the US support was equivalent to a third of the UNRWA budget.
