(MENAFN - Gulf Times) The Ministry of Public Health (MoPH) on Sunday announced that 507,743 people in Qatar have received both doses of Covid-19 vaccine, which means 22.3 percent of the eligible population are now fully vaccinated against the virus. On reaching the milestone of fully vaccinating more than half a million people, MoPH announced that 1,415,761 vaccine doses have been administered since the start of the program, accounting for 39.9 percent of the eligible population. The National Covid-19 Vaccination Program is being delivered at more than 35 vaccination centers across Qatar, including Primary Health Care Corporations 27 primary health centers, vaccination centers at Qatar National Convention Center and in the Industrial Area, and two drive-through vaccination centers, in Lusail and Al Wakra. The availability of more vaccines as well as the opening of additional vaccination centers has enabled Qatar to significantly increase the pace of the vaccination program since February, and during each of the past four weeks more than 160,000 doses have been administered. Last week, MoPH reduced the age threshold for vaccine eligibility to 35 years of age, enabling a wider section of the population to be vaccinated and become protected against Covid-19. A significant proportion of people within the priority groups have now been vaccinated, with 84.5 percent of people over 60 years of age, 76.6 percent of people over 50 years of age, and 63.9 percent of people over 40 years of age having received at least one vaccine dose. Primary Health Care Corporation teams continue to directly contact people who are eligible by SMS or phone call to arrange their appointment.
