Myanmar Military Junta Announces Release of 5,600 Prisoners, Commits to Peace, Democracy, Blaming Opponents for Prolonged Unrest

The military junta led by Min Aung Hlaing took over the government of Myanmar in February, ousting the elected government headed by Aung San Suu Kyi. Recently, however, the group has announced that it would release 5,600 anti-regime protesters after months of dictatorial leadership.
