Outgoing bishop warns of humanitarian disaster in Yemen (Vatican News)

Bishop Paul Hinder, who resigned on May 1 after 17 years as apostolic vicar for the Arabian peninsula, called attention to a humanitarian crisis in Yemen during a Vatican News interview.

Bishop Hinder reported that as a fragile truce between warring factions threatens to expire in Yemen, an estimated 30 million people are in danger. He added that the situation is unclear, because little reliable information comes from the besieged country.

Bishop Hinder’s retirement comes after his 80th birthday. He will be replaced as apostolic vicar for the Arabian peninsula by Bishop Paolo Martinelli, who has been serving as an auxiliary in Milan.
