Viewpoint: Caution needed on disarming police

In one way it shows just how far Northern Ireland has come, in another it demonstrates there’s still a way to go. The idea that PSNI officers should no longer carry firearms has been put forward in a Policing Board Human Rights report. It’s a relief that we have reached the stage where it can be seen as something to be considered, but it will need careful thought before it goes any further.
