No evidence yet to support hate crime charge in death of pro-Israel protester, officials say

California authorities have charged Loay Abdelfattah Alnaji with involuntary manslaughter and battery in the death of a pro-Israel demonstrator. The charges stem from a physical altercation between Alnaji and Paul Kessler during protests over the Israel-Hamas war. Kessler fell and hit his head on the ground, causing fatal injuries. While investigators have not ruled out a hate crime, they currently lack evidence to support that charge. Alnaji, a college professor, had espoused pro-Palestinian views on social media.
