A union county substitute teacher*now in custody after being indicted on rape charges.

The news is shocking the small town?

And sparking questions.

44news reporter jake thomas is in union county tonight with the latest developments.

Union county schools released a statement today confirming that heather frick, a 4?

Yea?old former substitute teacher was indicted today by kentucky state police for a third degree rape charge.

"november of 2019 is when we launched the investigation.

At this point the i nvestigators tirelessly went through months of information to finally present this to the grand jury and the grand jury opted to indict miss frick."

The county attorney's office received a tip back in november that spawned the initial investigation.

"the complaint was generated from the county attorneys office who initially received the complaint from a third party.

Now im not sure who that is but it must be some aquaintance to the juvenileho was privvy to the situation."

Heather firck was taken to the morgantown detention center on tuesday, but at this point, the details of the relationship between mrs. frick and the minor are unclear.

Corey king says "i don't know of the relationship, i don't know if she even taught this student or if they even knew each other through the process of education.

Either way, i think what was easiest for investigators as well as the commonwealt h attorney, is to present that there is a substantial age difference of ten years, which falls into the category of rape third."

Union county schools declined to respond when asked about further details on frick's exact role in the school system.

Kentucky state police say the investigation is now completely turned over to the commonwealt h attorney's office, and they will decide how to proceed.
