Man arrested in high-speed DUII crash, no major injuries

Police say about 60 feet of fence was destroyed in a high-speed DUII crash in Eugene, but the driver and his passenger survived with minor injuries.

Destruction at the u-s post office in eugene early this morning.

Police arrested 23 year old anthony patchill after he drove intoxicated...going over 90 miles per hour and crashing into a fence.

Kezi 9 news reporter kennedy dendy spoke with witnesses who say this is a prime example of why you should never drink and drive.

"what i think when i see this is...did the person live&" signs of*significant damage at the u-s post office at 33rd and willamette...after a high-speed crash of over 90 miles per hour took out nearly 60 feet of fence.

Bridge: this is just one of many pieces left from the crash.

And as one doctor says, it could have ended much differently.

"you can't go through this kind of trauma without suffering permanent or semi permanent consequences.

Your brain, etc.

No matter how great the technology is in the car protecting the individual in the car."

23 year old anthony michael patchfill was booked sunday morning in the lane county jail, where he faces multiple charges...a dui, reckless driving, criminal mischief in the first degree, reckless endangering and assault in the second degree.

I spoke to one nearby resident who was at the scene had driven right by the scene when this was all happening.

He says...all "we could see that it had taken out the fence.

It was crazy the car seemed like it was encased in fencing."

Police describe the vehicle, a small toyota hatchback, as obliterated.

And debris was and still is all over the place.

"if it happened during the day, if there were people walking there or in the evening, they wouldnt fair so well."

"goes to show that no matter what age you are, don't drink and drive."

Both in the car sustained minor injuries.
