AUSA Global Force Symposium Canceled

Sydney Martin spent the day working to find out how Huntsville will be impacted after the Association of the United States Army canceled its Global Force Symposium.

But next week - the space where the event would be held here at the von braun center will instead be empty.

The huntsville madison county visitors convention bureau said the event was estimated to bring about 3 point 6 million dollars into the area..

Most of that from those attendees staying at hotels, and eating at our local restaurants - among other things.

Today, i talked to a man who works for the visitor and convention bureau.

He said the safety of everyone is at the top of their minds as they continue to plan conferences here.

"i know that working with the city and the cvb and our hotel partners and the von braun center... they do have systems in place.

They have added a lot of of hand sanitizer stations, posting a lot of things about washing your hands, so they do have a lot of systems in place to make it a safe environment."

Since the symposium was expected to bring thousands to the area - the visitors and convention bureau told me it hopes you take advantage of restaurants and attractions that won't be as full.

Ausa said it plans to come back next march for its conference already scheduled for 20-21.

But at this time - the 2020 event in huntsville is not expected to be rescheduled.

A spokeswoman told us the venues remain open and full operational.

Cancellations of any event are at the discretion of the event organizer.
